Seattle Trip Day 8

Saturday August 22

Today marks one week underway.

Shearwater is a good place to rest and reset.

We probably could have hustled and gotten all our chores done yesterday afternoon and pulled out again this morning, but since we were slightly ahead of schedule anyway we decided to stay in port today.

We did laundry, bought groceries and ice, walked Bina several times, and generally just enjoyed the day in port.

The Nordhavn N43 Navigator was here as well and they invited me over to visit with them for a bit.  So I went over there and had a good visit with them.

Shearwater Resort provided free WiFi and “Premium” WiFi, but we could get neither of them to work worth a darn.

Shearwater has aviation fuel and is one of the only fueling spots for helicopters in this area.  So one downside of staying here is the frequent (sometimes almost constant) helicopter traffic right near the dock.  Fortunately it stopped at night and over the weekend.

It was rainy and a little breezy all day so it ended up being a good day to spend in port.

Shearwater is very near to another small community called Bella Bella.

Bella Bella has a land based airport and so a lot of people use it for access into this area.

There was constant boat/small ferry traffic back and forth between Shearwater and Bella Bella.  I saw on the bulletin board that the fare to Shearwater is $5, but is free to locals on Monday through Thursday.

Faraway tied up to the dock at Shearwater.  There was shore power on the dock, but only one fresh water hose, so you had to get in line to get the water hose, and some of those boats can hold a lot of water!

This is one of the ferries that run back and forth between Bella Bella and Shearwater.

I told Lisa, it's not fair.  All the other boats at the dock are bigger than ours.

This plane pivoted so that it always faced into the wind.  Only one of its two props turned in the wind though - I never figured that one out.

They must have really valued this tree because they built a concrete enclosure just for it.

This poor guy had to clean all these boats after a busy day of fishing.

A rainbow to finish out the day.  Lisa loves rainbows.

We had a good rest in Shearwater.
Ready to move on to the next challenge.
